The Queen Charlotte Islands are the premiere destination for a Canada saltwater fishing vacation. Reachable only by sea or air, the waters surrounding these unspoiled islands are home to large and abundant Chinook and Coho salmon as well as bottom fish like Red Snapper, Lingcod and Halibut. The Coho salmon often exceed 20 pounds, the Chinook salmon upwards of 65 pounds in peak season, and catching a 100 pound halibut off the coast of the Queen Charlottes is not uncommon!
Either from your fishing boat in and around the islands or while hiking the coastal island paths, you will regularly be treated to sightings of seals, sea lions, porpoises, dolphins and migrating whales. Look also to the sky to watch for bald eagles and peregrine falcons, and look to the shore for deer and black bears roaming the untamed landscape.
Also remarkable is the prevalent First Nations culture and history evident throughout the towns and communities of this 150-island archipelago. Known as Haida Gwai or Gwai Haanas in the native Haida tongue, the Queen Charlotte Islands have been inhabited by the indigenous Haida people for thousands of years, resulting in a rich and vibrant community of art including innumerable totem poles, argillite carvings and native paintings. You will also find ancient Haida villages steeped in history, legend and mythology.
If you are looking for outstanding saltwater fishing or simply want to get away from the big city to enjoy a quiet island lifestyle, you will enjoy natural splendor and world class lodge and resort accommodation when you travel Canada’s Queen Charlotte Islands.
